About the Project

International Citizen Service is a global volunteering scheme which aims to give young people aged 18-25 an opportunity to make a difference to some of the world's poorest people through real development work.

International Service aims to protect and promote the rights of the most marginalised people in developing countries, such as women, disabled people, children and young people, and people living with HIV/AIDS.  By working through long-term partnerships with local community organisations and governmental departments, International Service helps support people to understand their rights, and put them into action, so they are empowered to change their lives for the better.

The Northern Regional Centre for Persons with Disabilities is a disability resource hub based in Tamale, Ghana’s Northern Region’s capital, since 1998. The Centre aims to coordinate efforts across Ghana’s Northern Region to ensure persons with disabilities can live in dignity with full access to work, health services, education and society. The RCPWD works to educate about disability, to break down the barriers of stigmatization and provide advice and help to persons with disabilities (PWDs) around Northern Ghana.
The Resource Centre acts as an umbrella organisation for all the individual disabled organisations in the Northern Region to produce a united and powerful front to promote disability rights. It is a place where disabled people can come to find support, counselling and training. As well as the practical services provided by the centre, such as counselling and its use as a meeting place, the Resource Centre also carries out projects in the wider community. Its volunteers are currently engaged in a sensitization campaign throughout Northern Ghana in both schools and local communities to promote disability rights.
Our Vision: for persons with disabilities in Northern Ghana to enjoy their fundamental rights and freedoms and live as active and equal members of society.
Our Mission Statement: Coordinating efforts across Ghana’s Northern Region to ensure persons with disability live in dignity, with equal access to rights and opportunities as full members of society.
